The coastal waters of Beaufort County and the Pamlico River open up, shall we say, boatloads of possibilities for recreation. Sailing and bass fishing, waterskiing and kayaking, ecotours and sunset cruises.
You can charter a boat for fishing expeditions with locals who know these waters like the back of their hand, (or feel free to pick the brain of your local bait & tackle purveyor). Pull up at the yacht club for lunch (and maybe 18 holes on its championship course). And consider helping the younger generations learn the ropes with some lessons at sailing school. Want to get a little closer to the water? Take advantage of one of the numerous outfitters who can get you set up with everything you need to learn and master the kayak or paddleboard.
Of course, you don’t have to get in the water to enjoy it. You can stroll through the marshes and amazing ecosystem of Goose Creek State Park, or explore the N.C. Estuarium—the first environmental center of its kind in the world.
